5C er et nationalt forskningskonsortium, hvis form\u00e5l er at styrke og koordinere forskningen indenfor b\u00f8rnehjernetumorer i Danmark.<\/h3><\/div>

  • Tumors in the brain and spinal cord are one of the most frequent forms of childhood cancer - and the one that costs the most lives.<\/li>\n
  • \n

    Approximately 45 children under the age of 18 are diagnosed with a brain tumor each year.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Four out of five children with brain tumors in Denmark are alive five years after their diagnosis. However, survival for the more than 100 sub-diagnosis varies greatly, and so does the level of function of the children. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Brain tumors are the diagnosis within childhood cancer with the most long term side effects. Major neurological damage after surgery or irradiation therapy is responsible for the most serious late consequences, e.g. learning difficulties, motor problems, visual and hearing difficulties and mental disabilities.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • Tumors in the brain and spinal cord are usually treated with a combination of chemotherapy, surgery and irradiation therapy. The tumors are usually removed completely or partially by surgery, but there are also tumors that cannot be removed because they are located in parts of the brain, where the risk of life-threatening injuries is too great.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n <\/div>
